While many private jet interiors follow a Western aesthetic of opulence, this concept set out to create something quieter and more intentional. The challenge was to honor Japanese design values—like restraint, balance, and negative space within the luxury expectations of modern aviation, while pushing material design into the future.
Drawing from principles like Ma (space) and Shibui (subtle beauty), the design incorporates charred Shou Sugi Ban wood, Aizome-inspired leather, washi-textured walls, and natural stone. The standout feature is an AI-generated flooring pattern that interprets cherry blossoms in motion representing renewal, impermanence, and innovation. Each element was selected to evoke serenity, while elevating tactile and cultural richness.
Designed as part of Flexjet’s exploration into the next era of private aviation, Sakura transforms the Gulfstream G650 interior into a calming, immersive space in the sky. The concept challenges traditional ideas of luxury with a quieter kind of beauty focusing on craftsmanship, negative space, and emotional resonance. The AI-generated cherry blossom flooring becomes a visual anchor, blending cutting-edge technology with cultural symbolism to create a one-of-a-kind cabin experience.
